The Bolivarian Alliance for the People of our America is to turn 5 years of age on December 14
The Bolivarian Alternative for the People of our America, now an Alliance, arose like a stronghold facing the imperialist pretensions to levy a new neocolonial instrument of domination:the Free Trade Area of the Americas (FTAA).
ALBA is born under the precepts of solidarity and cooperation, signed in the beginning by Cuba and Venezuela, but today there are ninemember states, not only cooperating in the economic milieu, but also in the social one.
With this new form of integration, Mission Miracle is founded, as a concrete way to make it real and propitiate that people, suffering from ophthalmological illnesses, can recover their sight.
Another alternative applied within the framework of ALBA are the Misión Barrio Adentro, that has saved some 80 000 lives, and the Cuba-developed literacy method Yo si puedo (Yes, I can), which has taken knowledge to ALBA members and to other nations.
Cubacontributes to this alliance with an important deal of human resources, formed by the Revolution and strengthened by the humanist principles, but also provides its know-how in science and technology to its sibling countries.
It is worth mentioning the joint positions adopted by the ALBA member states; for example when they assumed an only-one stance during the OAS summit claiming the end of the unjust sanction against Cuba, a country that was excluded from that Pan-American forum in 1962.
The continuity of the projects propelled by ALBA have benefited million people, and impeded the establishment of the FTAA in the region, that would bring about dependence and capital flight.
The Bolivarian Alliance for the People of our America is to turn 5 years of age on December 14, new projections are forging ahead, as the alliance strengthen itself and unity among nations solidify.
